Taxpayers foot entire bill for 22-year-old's boob job !

"Breast augmentation is not a typical medical procedure covered under the U.K.'s socialist system of medicine, known officially as the National Health System (NHS). But it suddenly became one recently after 22-year-old Josie Cunningham convinced her doctor that being flat-chested was "causing her emotional distress," and that having bigger boobs was the only way to remedy the problem."

"I don't earn much, but I think I will get used to living the high life  very easily," she is quoted as saying to The Sun. "The sky's the limit now that I've got my new boobs -- and I can't thank the NHS enough for giving them to me."

Yesterday Graham put up a post regarding the lamentable situation in the NHS regarding diabetes care. Many diabetics are being refused test strips to check blood glucose. Without BG testing strips BG control becomes a game of chance. Test strips are expensive to buy and the poor or disadvantaged cannot afford them. The NHS say this is a matter of cost. They also say they believe many diabetics become stressed knowing their BG numbers and is counter productive. Well that could be partially true. If you follow the NHS dietary advice for diabetics and test your BG it will almost always be in the dangerous zone, as the NHS audits prove, most diabetics in the UK spend most of their lives running dangerous BG numbers.

So, the NHS can’t afford test strips or improve the situation for diabetics, but they can afford to pay for boob jobs for a wannabe Katy Price. What appalled me more than anything else over this story, is the fact Graham reckons it was money well spent !

Ministers urged to improve diabetes checks !

One in five people with diabetes are meeting targets to keep their condition under control, a charity has warned.
Just 20% of people in England and Wales hit the recommended levels for blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar, figures from Diabetes UK suggest.
It wants more people to get the recommended annual checks and action taken against parts of the NHS with the worst record.
The Department of Health said it wants to improve diabetes services.
The charity obtained the figures by analysing data from the National Diabetes Audit.
It showed that for type 1 diabetes, just 11% of people meet the targets which help prevent the risk of complications.
High blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar suggest the patient's diabetes is not well controlled and can lead to complications such as kidney failure and stroke.
The charity also said it goes a long way to explaining why 24,000 people with diabetes die early every year in England and Wales.
Annual checks
Currently only 54% of people with diabetes in England get the nine annual checks recommended nationally to prevent future problems.
As well as calling for more patients to receive this annual review, Diabetes UK said it wanted the government to hold poor performing areas to account because in some places fewer than 20% of people with the condition were getting the checks.
Care needs to improve to cope with the increasing numbers of people living with diabetes, the charity said.
It is estimated that the NHS spends about £10bn a year on diabetes - 10% of its entire budget - and about 80% of this goes on treating complications that could often have been prevented.
There are currently around three million people diagnosed with the disease.
Barbara Young, chief executive of Diabetes UK, said: "Given that diabetes is serious and can lead to early death if not supported to manage their condition, it is extremely worrying that so few people have it under control.
"The high rate of preventable complications is the inevitable consequence of a healthcare system that has all too often not been good enough and this highlights the need for local services to put in place self-management support programmes to help people manage their diabetes well.
"At the moment there is virtually no access to the ongoing education and support to help people manage their diabetes and so help avoid complications reduce their chance of early death."
A spokesperson from the Department of Health said: "We are determined to improve NHS services across the country for people with diabetes and end the unacceptable variation in care that still exists.
"We have set clear objectives for the NHS to improve the care and management of people with diabetes and we will be monitoring NHS England to make sure this is delivered."

Jewish Kamikaze pilots !

According to most lowcarb antis, us lowcarbers are Jewish Kamikaze pilots, on a one way trip into our brother in laws scrap yards. No future in lowcarb, it’s just a good way to kick off a weight loss deal, and short term. Five years on, I think maybe these folk would do better to have some psychiatric counselling before trying to lose weight. Lets face it, if they believe basing their diet on sugar and starch is the way forward, they're more nuts than me. Seriously what have us lowcarbers dumped ? White bread, pasta, rice, spuds and factory produced junk. Tonights radical grub I list below, try it, if you turn into a werewolf or mad axe killer I will give you your money back.

Mussels in white wine and garlic sauce

Lowcarb  lasagne

Ingredients serves two
250 grams ground/minced beef
1 aubergine/egg plant
1 red onion
A splash of olive oil
300 ml of double cream
One 400 grams tin of chopped tomatoes
A cup of fresh grated cheddar cheese
Half a red pepper chopped
Half a green pepper chopped
A handful of button mushrooms
Salt, pepper and mixed herbs to taste

Fry the finely chopped onion with the olive oil in a large frying pan, Americans call this a skillet I believe. When soft add the minced beef and brown. Add the chopped peppers, mushrooms and chopped tomatoes. Allow to come off the simmer and add the double cream, and stir well. Cut the aubergine into thin slices around 6mm/ around a quarter inch thick. Layer up, one layer of aubergine and one layer of the beef mix, in your oven proof dish, adding some salt, mixed herbs and pepper. Place in oven set at 200c for around thirty minutes. Remove and cover with grated cheddar cheese. Place back in the oven and cook for a further 10 minutes or until the cheese is golden brown.

A truly great meal, very easy and lowcarb, enjoy !
